Eye contour treatments to combat wrinkles

We often say that the eyes are a window to the soul. Unfortunately, they’re also the first place to show the effects of time. This makes wrinkles and fine lines around the eyes a common concern for many women, but it can be tricky to know how exactly to go about treating them.

In this article, we’ll take a look at how they develop and show you that there isn’t just one type of wrinkle found around the eyes, but several. You’ll then understand why at FILORGA, we don’t treat all wrinkles together, but each type individually.

This is because, while the differences from one wrinkle to another can be subtle, they are no less important and require specific approaches.

What you need to know about wrinkles and eye contour care

  • The area around the eyes is very fragile and sensitive, and the skin is thinner than on other parts of the face. This means it requires special attention.

  • Wrinkles around the eyes can be caused by a number of things, including the natural aging process, lack of moisturization, and the accumulation of contaminants.

  • There are 5 types of wrinkle found around the eyes, each with their own characteristics.

  • We recommend using treatments containing active ingredients suitable for each type of wrinkle.

How do wrinkles form ?

Skin ageing is a natural process that affects the entire structure of our skin.

The face is affected earlier because the skin is thinner than on other parts of the body. The area around the eyes is particularly delicate, with extremely thin skin.

The eye contour is the area of the face most prone to wrinkles.

Over time, skin microcirculation decreases and blood vessels weaken. This means that skin cells then renew less effectively. The epidermis becomes thinner and the stratum corneum on the surface thickens, which can lead to the appearance of tiny cracks on the skin’s surface. Dark circles can also accompany the typical signs of aging around the eyes: poor blood and lymphatic microcirculation means that blood waste is not properly eliminated. Since the skin around the eyes is thinner than the rest of the face, this accumulated waste becomes visible through the skin.

In the dermis, the production of hyaluronic acid, collagen, and elastin is reduced. This decline upsets the structure of the dermis, causing it to sag and fail to fulfill its role as the skin’s supportive cushion.

Finally, fat cells in the hypodermis lose volume. This results in less firm, less plump skin.

Together, these phenomena, often exacerbated by smoking, fatigue, or exposure to UV radiation, lead to the development of wrinkles.

The different kinds of wrinkle found around the eyes

Structural aging of the skin is compounded by anatomical aging, meaning changes specific to different areas around the eye. Aesthetic doctors have analyzed these phenomena for a long time, and when they examine the area around a patient’s eyes, they can quickly distinguish between different types of wrinkles and choose the technique(s) best suited to their treatment:

  • Crow’s feet wrinkles

Found on the outer side of the eye, these wrinkles are a kind of expression line. They are caused by the repeated movement of facial muscles.

To remedy these wrinkles, aesthetic doctors use chemical peels.

  • Eyelid wrinkles

As with other wrinkles, these are caused by a reduction in the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin combined with sagging eyelid skin.

Eyelid wrinkles can be treated with PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) or PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) injections. If you prefer not to resort to this type of procedure, you can apply an anti-wrinkle cream such as those available from Laboratoires FILORGA.

  • Frown lines

Frown lines, also known as glabellar lines, form between the eyebrows. Repeated frowning and movement of the eyebrows, combined with skin aging, is what leads to the development of these wrinkles.

The preferred solution in aesthetic medicine for reducing the appearance of this particular wrinkle is the injection of botulinum toxin, which keeps the eyebrow muscles relaxed.

  • Under-eye wrinkles

These wrinkles and fine lines often indicate dehydrated skin. They can also be caused by a loss of volume in the cheeks due to age or weight loss. This results in sagging skin under the eyes, which, combined with reduced skin elasticity, leads to wrinkles.

Aesthetic injections

are used to combat this kind of wrinkle.

  • Dark circles

As mentioned above, dark circles are caused by a buildup of pigment in the blood vessels just under the skin around the eyes.

They can be attenuated using carboxytherapy, a treatment designed to reoxygenate tissues and stimulate microcirculation and cell renewal.

The inspiration behind the design of FILORGA’s eye contour treatments comes from aesthetic medicine

Founded in 1978 FILORGA is the 1st French Laboratory in Aesthetic Medicine. Its creator, Dr. Michel Tordjman, developed at the time an injectable solution acting on all the key factors of skin ageing. The current FILORGA products are the result of this research. We provide all women and men with anti-ageing cosmetic ranges developed from the ingredients used for injections.

To treat wrinkles and signs of ageing around the eyes, we have selected these ingredients:

  • For crow’s feet, we use a standardized Sea Fennel extract to help eliminate dead cells, reduce the thickness of the stratum corneum, and accelerate skin renewal.

  • For eyelid wrinkles, we use orchid stem cells to boost collagen and elastin production. This helps firm the skin and has a sculpting effect on eyelid wrinkles, thereby creating a more open appearance to the eye area.

  • For frown lines, we use a relaxing peptide that emulates the effect of botulinum toxin.

  • For under-eye wrinkles, a potassium-rich Imperata cylindrica root extract helps create a moisturizing reservoir within the skin.

  • For dark circles and visible signs of tiredness, we employ a carboxytherapy-inspired Persian silk tree extract that improves microcirculation and helps minimize the build-up of pigments.

NCEF (New Cellular Encapsulated factors) technology, created by FILORGA, which integrates high molecular weight hyaluronic acid and revitalizing ingredients used in injections (amino acids, vitamins, minerals, co-enzymes). NCEF acts as a real booster that triggers the skin’s natural cellular mechanisms to fight against skin ageing.
